Peter Christian Johnson

Peter Christian Johnson is a ceramic artist and Professor of Art at Kent State University, USA. His work explores transformation through structure and material, using the kiln as a tool for deconstruction. His porcelain grid systems begin as digital designs and are carefully built by hand, then fired to allow controlled collapse and fluid distortions. He combines precision and unpredictability to reveal contrasts between fragility and strength. Peter has exhibited widely in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and received awards from the Oregon Arts Commission, Ohio Arts Council, and Archie Bray Foundation. He has recently participated in prestigious exhibitions in Italy, Portugal, and Belgium.
