Stephen Driver

Stephen Driver has been dedicated to wood firing for over fifty years. His journey began in 1971 when he helped build a six-chamber climbing kiln in California. He later apprenticed with wood-fired earthenware potter Peter Bruce Dick in the UK. In 1978, he established Mulberry Creek Pottery in Arkansas and built a bourry box kiln. Today, Stephen fires a two-chamber wood kiln — an Anagama and a Noborigama for salt and soda firing — completed in 2017. Each firing takes four days and holds up to 1000 pieces. His work is deeply rooted in tradition, community, and the ever-changing dialogue between fire, clay, and form.
